Selected Guru Tracks

"It's like Keith Richards. Nobody is going to remember him as the worlds greatest guitar player, but when you needed an iconic lick for your song, he's your guy. That's what Guru did; his sound really set it off."- Branford Marsalis

A few older/random/more slept on Guru cuts, including a great (but criminally short) blend by DJ Supreme The Silencer over "Busta's Lament". I'm gonna hit up Supreme and see if I can get a longer version.

You know what, I saw that comment from Branford and although I respect the guy greatly I have to disagree. I think the analogy sucks, actually. In the sentence or two before that, he talks about how Guru wasn't really a technically proficient rapper. There's easily 20 or 30 tracks I'd confidently hold up as a counterpoint to that.

Anyway, great selection of music. I'm about to post my tribute, so check it out.

Also, thanks for showcasing some Jazzmatazz, those albums don't get enough love.
